My thoughts about the Apple Watch
Many things have already been written about the Apple Watch, most of it based on rumour, little on facts. So I thought I just add my five cents to the rumours.
Here are the facts:
- on 09.09.14 Apple has shown the world a rather pretty piece of engineering they call the Apple Watch
- They did not mention anything about the battery life time - Nothing exciting was unveiled regarding the sensors, apart from the pulse sensor
- The watch will be available sometime early 2015 - Press could only look (no touch!) at the non functional watches displayed in the pavilion.
First Question: Why did they show a premature product? I assume they had to because analysts were putting so much pressure on Apple and they did not want to disappoint the press and analysts attending the event and the world watching it (or tried - giving all the stream interruptions...) in fear that the share price will drop dramatically.
Second question: Why did they not say anything about the battery life time? In my opinion this will be a big, positive surprise and they did not want to give it away to the Samsungs and Sonys of this world prematurely. Looking at the watch from the side it looks quite thick. Now why would Apple not go for a more flat and sleek design? Well because they can't! The watch contains a similar mechanism like the Seiko Auto Quarz watch which uses a weight similar to the one on automatic watches. But instead of winding up a spring, Apple's weight powers a little generator to recharge the battery. This will extend the battery life to 5 days or more.
Third Question: Why just a silly pulse sensor? Looking at the Healthbook App this does not make sense. What else, if not the Apple Watch should be able to provide all the data regarding blood sugar, body fat, blood glucose, body temperature, etc.? Of course they can't provide the body weight, unless you step onto the watch ;-) But other things are highly possible!
Why would they hire a whole team of medical experts, just to be able to measure the silly pulse with the watch? Again, Apple did not want to give away too many details to prevent copy cats.
In summary, Apple will hit the wearables market next year with a product which can do far more than they've unveiled so far and with a battery that lasts much longer than the batteries in other smart watches today.
Let's wait for early 2015!

The new James Bond movie - save the money!
Today I saw the new James Bond movie, and to say it right away - it us the worst Bond ever made. On my scale it is even worse than the movie with Timothy Dalton.
This new Bond does not feature anything one would expect from a Bond movie.
- no cool gadgets
- no cool cars
- no subtle humour
instead we got:
- a car chase
- some fist fights
- a car chase
- some fist fight
- a car chase
........
Very boring to say the least !
A waste of money!

Bob Moog has left the stage
This morning I have reveived the sad news that Bob Moog has passed away.
With creating the Moog-Synthesizer and especially the Minimoog he left behind a legacy of instruments which
shaped the musical world like nothing before.
What a great loss, we will miss you Bob !

Java One 2005
Finally,
I am into blogging too.
For Java ONE... it seems that people finally got the fact that EJBs are too over engineered - so it is back to POJOs. We at our company FIDUCIA have done this for years... our POJOs are called Application Services, which are basically simple java classes which can be exposed as a service by simply registering them in a text file.
So.... now it seems that we have been doing the right thing.
